World Photography Day
August 19
World Photography Day is a celebration of photographic history – and a great excuse to share photos with the world.
World Photography Day is celebrated every year, on August 19. It is a globally recognised celebration of the photograph and its history.
August 19 is the date that recognizes the invention of the Daguerrotype, a process that was devised by the French artist and photographer, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre in 1837. His idea was then effectively sold to the French Academy of Sciences, which subsequently gifted the process to the world on 19 August 1839.
Share your love of photography on social media. Post your favorite photo, whether it’s your own or a favorite of someone else’s, and acknowledge the photographer on your social media profiles. Don’t forget to tell them about National Photography Day and include the hashtag #NationalPhotographyDay.
